Department Profile

The Department of Mathematics has been in existence since the inception of the college in 1967. The Department began its journey by offering B.A. (Pass) courses and Mathematics papers in Commerce and Economics. With the sincere and dedicated efforts of its founding teachers, the Department introduced B.Sc. (General) in 1980 and B.Sc. (Honours) Mathematics in 1992.

The Department aims to provide opportunities for students to explore areas of mathematics beyond the classroom and to enhance communication and cooperation among students. Its goal is to enable students to express mathematical ideas creatively, develop their talents, and become confident, capable, and responsible individuals.

Scope of the Subject

Graduates of the B.Sc. (Honours) Mathematics programme can pursue academic and professional courses such as B.Ed., M.Sc., or M.S., followed by M.Phil. or Ph.D. degrees. These qualifications can lead to promising careers in research and teaching.

Students may also pursue professional courses such as MCA or MBA. MCA is a suitable option for Mathematics graduates who wish to pursue a career in the information technology sector, while MBA is appropriate for those interested in the management field. Students can also explore career opportunities in actuarial science, banking, civil services, data analysis, finance, and related fields.

The Department of Mathematics welcomes the commencement of the new academic session for fourth-year undergraduate students. This phase emphasizes advanced coursework, research engagement, and preparation for higher studies and professional careers. Active participation from both students and faculty helps foster a dynamic and enriching learning environment.
