Amaranth-The Botanical Society of Kalindi College
Since its inception, “Amaranth, The Botanical Society of Kalindi College” showcases diverse types of academic, cultural and scholarly activities related to Botany and allied fields involving the active participation of students, teachers as well as the members of non-teaching staff. The word ‘Amaranth’ has originated from a Latin word, ‘Amaranthus’ that translates into ‘a flower that never fades away.’ Every year, the society organizes various inter and intra-college events that foster overall development of students and motivates them to learn Botany in interesting ways. The academic session begins with the inaugural function of the society that involves inaugural opening of the session with a lecture of an eminent speaker who is usually an expert in the field of
Botany and related domains. The lecture is followed by various kinds of extra-curricular activities such as rangoli competition, quiz competition, debate competition, story writing competition and poster making competition etc. The success of such events is reflected in terms of huge participation of students from different colleges. Furthermore, society organizes several talks by eminent speakers from time to time that help in enriching student’s exposure to the diversity of topics prevalent in the subject area and hence, boosting their interests in pursuing research. As a part of curriculum, the society organizes educational field trips and Botanical excursions time to time to provide field level experience about the flora of different areas of topography. Furthermore, society publishes its biannual magazine, ‘The Amaranth Times’ that features articles of various topics written by students from different departments of the college. Academic session concludes with the annual function of the society.
